Making your own laundry detergent pods is super simple and lets you pick the ingredients that work best for you. Here’s how to do it!
What You’ll Need:
Detergent or Liquid Laundry Soap: Go for a high-efficiency detergent for the best stain removal.
Water: This is just for mixing.
Gelatin: This helps hold the pods together.
Essential Oils (optional): Add a few drops for a nice smell, like lavender or lemon.
Food Coloring (optional): Use this if you want to give your pods some color.
Steps to Make Your Pods:
Prepare the Mixture:
In a large bowl, pour in 1 cup of your detergent or liquid laundry soap.
Add 1/2 cup of water and stir well until everything is fully dissolved.
Add Gelatin:
In another small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of gelatin with 1/4 cup of hot water.
Mix Everything Together:
Slowly pour the gelatin mixture into the detergent mix while stirring constantly to blend everything together.
Add Fragrance and Color (optional):
If you want your pods to smell nice or have some color, add a few drops of essential oil and some food coloring.
Pour Into Molds:
Carefully pour the mixture into an ice cube tray or silicone mold, filling each compartment.
Refrigerate to Set:
Pop the mold in the fridge for about 2-3 hours, or until the pods are completely hard.
Remove and Store:
Gently pop the pods out of the mold and let them air dry in a cool, dry place for 24 hours to make sure they’re nice and firm.
Store the dried pods in a sealed container to keep them dry.
How to Use:
Just toss one pod into the washing machine with your clothes each time you do laundry—no need for any extra detergent!
A Few Notes:
Make sure to use safe ingredients, especially if anyone in your family has sensitive skin.
Since these DIY pods don’t have preservatives, try to use them up within a few months.
With these easy steps, you’ll have your own homemade laundry detergent pods, making laundry day greener and way more personalized!
